Konner Wade, RHP, University of Arizona
Class: Junior; Height: 6-3; Weight: 190
After struggling to miss bats during his freshman season at Arizona (4.09 K/9 in 61.2 IP), Wade looked like a potential early round pick following a strong improvement during his sophomore campaign (6.93 K/9 in 136.1 IP). The lanky right-hander, however, has seen a rather large regression, averaging just 5.50 K/9 in 104.2 innings. Overall, he’s limited free passes (2.06 BB/9) and his 4.30 ERA is largely misleading; once it’s adjusted for park and schedule it drops nearly a full run, to 3.53 (CollegeSplits.com).
Projection: It’s really all about pitchability for Wade at this point. He doesn’t miss a whole lot of bats — probably because of a lackluster arsenal — but he knows how to get by with was he has. The right-hander’s another one of these high floor/low ceiling-type guys, but that ceiling resides as a big league swingman at best. And it’s very probable that he peters out in Double-A.
Ceiling: 0.5- to 1.0-win player
Likelihood of Reaching His Ceiling: Low to Moderate
Drafted: Fifth Round or Later
