College Draft Profile: Alex Balog

Alex Balog, RHP, University of San Francisco

Class: Junior; Height: 6-6; Weight: 225

Updated: 06/04/13

After a solid yet unimpressive sophomore season (78.2 IP, 57 K’s, 31 BB’s and 3.43), the big right-hander out of the University of San Francisco has really failed to impress during his junior campaign, throwing 91.2 innings with 67 punch outs and 33 free passes. And both his ERA and FIP (3.63 and 4.48, respectively) are less than impressive.

Projection: Balog has the size scouts crave — 6-6 and 225 pounds — but the production has failed to impress. And statistically speaking, there’s really no reason to believe that he will be anything more than organizational depth right now.

Ceiling: 0.5- to 1.0-win player

Likelihood of Reaching His Ceiling: Moderate

Drafted: Fifth Round
