College Draft Profile: Colby Suggs

Colby Suggs, RHP, University of Arkansas

Class: Junior; Height: 6-0; Weight: 225

Updated: 06/03/13

Overshadowed by his teammate Ryne Stanek, Suggs has continued to pile up both the strikeouts and walks in his third season. In 20.2 innings, the career reliever has punched out 29 but walked a whopping 17. It’s a rather large step backwards for Suggs, who showed some developmental progress from his freshman to sophomore seasons (7.65 BB/9 to 4.38 BB/9).

Projection: Forget command, control doesn’t even exist for the hard-throwing right-hander yet. He certainly has the talent to make into the top 50 or so picks, but it likely won’t happen come June. He’s eventually going to develop into a shutdown backend reliever, but it could take a few seasons.

Ceiling: 1.0- to 1.5-win player

Likelihood of Reaching His Ceiling: Low to Moderate

Drafted: Second or Third Round
