College Draft Profile: Hunter Dozier

Hunter Dozier, SS, Stephen F Austin State University

Class: Junior; Height: 6-4; Weight: 220; B/T: R/R

Updated: 06/02/13

Attending what one would assume as the longest named college in the country, Dozier has done nothing but hit since day one. Prior to the season, the 6-foot-4 shortstop owned a career .337/.400/.535 line. And through 55 games this season, he’s hitting .396/.482/.755 with a park and schedule-adjusted .553 WOBA, the highest mark in DI.

Projection: The above-average power seems to be real, as it’s continually become a more prevalent skill each season. And if he can stick at short — which is a big if — the bat plays even better. Otherwise, he might have to shift to third where it plays down. He has 15- to 20-homerun pop, with a decent eye at the plate, and some speed. He could develop into a an above-average player, maybe a touch better.

Ceiling: 3.0-win player

Likelihood of Reaching His Ceiling: Moderate

Drafted: First Round
