College Draft Profile: Eric Jagielo

Eric Jagielo, Notre Dame

Class: Junior; Height: 6-3; Weight: 215; Position: 3B; B/T: L/R

Updated: 06/02/13

The lefty-swinging third baseman out of Notre Dame has shown steady improvement throughout his three-year career, hitting .269/.355/.418 as a freshman, .310/.399/.546 2012, and .385/.502/.633 through 49 games this season. Along with 16 homeruns, Jagielo has added a triple, eight homeruns and a pair of stolen bases. He’s also sporting a 1-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Projection: Jagielo has two red flags to be wary of: Notre Dame’s home field tends to inflate numbers and his strikeout rate, 13.7%, while not high, is a bit of a concern given his average power. He won’t be a star, but he could be a solid-average everyday player, peaking with 15 or so homeruns and a .260/.330/.420 line. And, of course, a lot of that will hinge on his ability to hit southpaws.

Ceiling: 2.0-win player

Likelihood of Reaching His Ceiling: Moderate

Drafted: Second Round
