College Draft Profile: Ryan Eades

Ryan Eades, RHP, LSU

Class: Junior; Height: 6-3; Weight: 198

Update: 06/02/13

Eades, who was originally drafted by the Rockies in the 19th round in 201 0 draft, was a solid collegiate pitcher during his first two seasons at LSU, throwing a combined 137 innings with 94 punch outs and 28 walks. This season, however, he took a noticeable step forward.

Through 16 starts (96 innings), Eades is averaging 7.22 K/9 and 2.81 BB/9. His FIP, however, is more than a full run higher than his ERA (3.89 to 2.81).

Projection: Eades isn’t going to miss a whole lot of bats in the professional ranks, maybe averaging about 6.7 punch outs per nine innings. But he’s typically shown a strong feel for the strike zone and could eventually slide into the backend of a rotation in a couple years.

Ceiling: 1.5- to 2.0-win player

Likelihood of Reaching His Ceiling: Low to Moderate

Drafted: Second Round
